TR was born in 2007. Migrating Geese had been traveling for several years before that, with others occasionally joining in and dropping out. We had no home region. During one of our visits, a nation called Stilton-U-Like asked if we were from Travelling Region. Thus the idea was born. Having a home region gave us credibility and also offered a rest stop for the many other nomads in NS. It allowed us to post the names of our members, so our host regions could identify who we were. We have since been featured three time.
Before our region was finalized, we had a long discussion about the spelling. Our British friends spelled Travelling with 2 L's, and the Americans with one. I believe at the time we had more Brits and Australians with us than Americans, so the double L won out. We are still being questioned about it.
Our Philosophy is simple: we travel thru NS alphabetically backwards, going "south", stopping in various regions which seem interesting. We enjoy the "locals", offering them refreshments and getting the "feel" of the region. This is our seventh trip. When we get to 000 we usually have a little party.
August 14 has been officially designated as "Travelling Day" in our region. It was suggested by a nation belonging to a region called The 501st. We adopted it immediately.
Our experiences have run the gamut from being sent to the Rejected Realms to being part of our host region's WFE. We've been kicked out, shot at, and chased by goose hunters. When we entered the Post Office, the founder (the post master) died and we were accused of murder; we were chased thru NS for months by -The Law- before he lost our trail.
Many older regions remember our visits and request us to stop in again. At Christmas you will usually find us in The North Pole, where the geese are trying not to be Christmas dinner.
Once the original Skoda Truck Drivers stopped in The Kingdom of Burgundy and wished them a Merry Christmas. Not being in a holiday spirit, they complained to the mods and Skoda was nuked. So now, after Burgundy bit the dust, Skoda refounded it and made it our own. Everyone is welcome to stop in and say Merry Christmas.
We are seasoned travelers, asking only friendship and conversation. Our hope is to stir up activity and help revitalize some regions. And, while Travelling Region never recruits, we never turn away a weary vagabond.
Because Migrating Geese had been away from TR most of the time, it left the region vulnerable to raiders. Therefore the geese retired to the region and the puppet More Migrating Geese took to the sky. After a few months the geese got itchy wings. So the travelers agreed to have the region refounded by More Migrating Geese. The transition was so smooth that it went largely unnoticed.
I think that TR may be the only region in NS where its natives are elsewhere!
